Commissioned Piece for Christmas present

I was very pleased to be asked to create this piece. It was the childhood memories of repeated sayings between two sisters that prompted the commission. This piece really pushed me, as combining relief carving with letter carving always holds so much fear (…what if it goes wrong?) But it didn’t, and it all worked out really well and was exactly what the customer wanted! The worms are ‘gilded’ in a mid brown metallic foil and all the lettering made to look like a child’s reading book. The relief designs are all my own, sketched directly onto the stone before outlining and hand carving in the traditional way.
